Selecting a Paper Size

Summary: Your printer may be able to print on many different sizes of paper, but if you don’t format your document correctly it will never know which of those paper sizes to use. This tip explains just how easy it is to format your document for a particular paper size. (This tip works with Microsoft Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002, and Word 2003.)

Word supports any printer supported by Windows. This is because Word uses the features offered by Windows to print documents. Many of the features associated with formatting your document and printing are related to the type of printer you have installed and selected. For instance, many printers will support different sizes of paper. If your printer does this, and you want to change the paper size used for your document, you should follow these steps:

  1. Choose the Page Setup option from the File menu. You will see the Page Setup dialog box.
  2. Select the Paper Size (Word 97 or Word 2000) or Paper (Word 2002 or Word 2003) tab. (Click here to see a related figure.)
  3. Select the appropriate paper size for your document.
  4. Click on OK.

Tip #1159 applies to Microsoft Word versions: 97 | 2000 | 2002 | 2003
