Changing the Default Font in Word 2000 and Later Versions

Summary: An easy way to set the default font in Word's versions 2000 and later. (This tip works with Microsoft Word 2000, Word 2002, and Word 2003.)

Word's versions 2000 and later include an easy way to change the default font for your documents. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Create a brand new, blank document.
  2. Choose the Font option from the Format menu. Word displays the Font dialog box. (Click here to see a related figure.)
  3. Select the font settings you want to use by default.
  4. Click on the Default button. Word asks you if you are sure you want to change the default font.
  5. Click on Yes.

You have now changed the default font. The changes will take effect with the next document you create.

Tip #1559 applies to Microsoft Word versions: 2000 | 2002 | 2003
