Summary: Word allows you to link external information into your documents. If you no longer need to maintain the active link, you can easily break the link by just a mouse click or two. (This tip works with Microsoft Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002, Word 2003, and Word 2007.)
At some point in working with a document you may determine that an existing document link is no longer necessary. You can break a link between your document and another application by following these steps, if you are using a version of Word prior to Word 2007:
If you are using Word 2007 then the steps are different:
Word breaks the link between your document and the source application, but the information remains in your document.
