Printing Shortcut Key Assignments

Summary: Shortcut keys are great timesavers when you don’t want to remove your hands from the keyboard to mess with the mouse. Word even lets you define your own shortcut keys to augment the rich selection provided by the program. You may, for reference purposes, want to print out a list of all the assignments. You can do so by using the steps outlined in this tip. (This tip works with Microsoft Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002, Word 2003, and Word 2007.)

As you already know, Word allows you to assign your own shortcut keys to invoke styles or initiate macros. At some point you may want to print out a list of the assignments you have made. This is handy to keep near the computer as a quick-reference guide. To print such a list, follow these steps:

  1. Select Print from the File menu. (In Word 2007, select Print after clicking the Office button.) Word displays the Print dialog box. (Click here to see a related figure.)
  2. Using the Print What drop-down list, select Key Assignments.
  3. Click your mouse on OK.

Tip #1239 applies to Microsoft Word versions: 97 | 2000 | 2002 | 2003 | 2007

Take Control! Master the real power behind Word! Successfully master the secrets of powerful formatting and create documents that stand out from the rest. Best of all, you can create documents that are easy to maintain and quick to change.
