Quickly Removing a Toolbar Button
Summary: Need to remove a toolbar button, but don’t want to go through the hassle of displaying the Configure dialog box? You can make quick work of paring down your toolbars by using just one small shortcut key. (This tip works with Microsoft Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002, Word 2003, and Word 2007.)
Most people know that you can remove tools from a toolbar by going through a specific customization process. Word provides an even faster way of removing tools. Simply hold down the Alt key as you click on a tool and drag it off a toolbar.
In Word 2007 this approach won't work because of the big change in user interface. The ribbon doesn't allow tools to be added, changed, or removed. And, in addition, the one toolbar you can customize (the Quick Action Toolbar) doesn't recognize what you want to do when you click and drag with the Alt key held down.
