Jumping to a Line Number

Summary: When navigating your document, you might want to jump to a specific line number. (This is very helpful if you have a lot of short lines in the document.) Word makes this easy with the Go To dialog box. (This tip works with Microsoft Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002, and Word 2003.)

Word allows you to move the insertion point to any line number in your document by using the Go To command. To take advantage of this feature, follow these steps:

  1. Choose the Go To option from the Edit menu, or simply press F5. You will see the Go To dialog box.
  2. On the left side of the Go To dialog box, make sure that you indicate you want to go to a line.
  3. Enter the line number to which you want to move.
  4. Click on Go To, or press Enter.

Tip #1166 applies to Microsoft Word versions: 97 | 2000 | 2002 | 2003

Great Idea! Uncover the many ways you can master the full potential of printing your documents. WordTips: Printing and Printers can help you get the most from both the printed page and your printer.
