Resizing a Text Box or Frame

Summary: Text boxes and frames allow you to “segment” information in your document and lay it out differently. You can easily resize these boxes and frames by following the simple instructions in this tip. (This tip works with Microsoft Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002, Word 2003, and Word 2007.)

Text boxes or frames, regardless of what they contain, can be easily sized in Word. To change the size of an existing text box or frame, follow these steps:

  1. Click once on the information within the frame or text box. A box appears for the object (this is designated by eight squares, or handles, around the perimeter).
  2. Use the mouse to point to one of the handles. The pointer will change to a double-headed arrow. Click on the left mouse button.
  3. Drag the handle to resize the frame or text box.
  4. Release the mouse button when the text box or frame is the size you want. The information it contains will be reformatted to fit within the newly resized frame or text box.

Tip #1054 applies to Microsoft Word versions: 97 | 2000 | 2002 | 2003 | 2007

Take Control! Master the real power behind Word! Successfully master the secrets of powerful formatting and create documents that stand out from the rest. Best of all, you can create documents that are easy to maintain and quick to change.
