Summary: If you protect your document using the tools that Word provides, at some time you may need to turn off that protection. Here’s how easy it is to open the document back up. (This tip works with Microsoft Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002, Word 2003, and Word 2007.)
If you previously protected your document for change tracking, for comments, or for forms, then you will probably need to unprotect the document at some time so that you can make unrestricted changes. To unprotect your document, follow these steps if you are using a version of Word prior to Word 2007:
