Creating Microsoft Reader Files in Word 2007
Summary: Microsoft Reader is a product that allows you to read e-books on various devices. The e-books have to be in what is called a “.Lit” format. Earlier versions of Word had add-ins available that would export documents into this format, but not so with Word 2007. (This tip works with Microsoft Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002, Word 2003, and Word 2007.)
Brian has a Word add-in that converts Word 2003 documents to the .Lit format so they can be used with Microsoft Reader for e-books. Brian has recently upgraded to Word 2007, and now needs to find a similar add-in for the newest version of Word.
Unfortunately, Brian may be out of luck. The folks at Microsoft who create and maintain Microsoft Reader have not created an update for the plug-in, and there is no indication as to when they might do so. The old add-in will still work with Word 2007, but with limited functionality. (Some of the features provided by the add-in don't work properly in Word 2007.)
Perhaps the best solution is to keep a machine still running Word 2003 nearby. (Sorry!)
