Deleting Borders

Summary: Borders around a paragraph can be a nice touch, but you may want to remove those borders at some time. You can do so quite easily by following the information in this tip. (This tip works with Microsoft Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002, Word 2003, and Word 2007.)

In other editions of WordTips you learn how to add borders to paragraphs in your document. If you later want to remove the border from a paragraph, follow these steps if you are using a version of Word prior to Word 2007:

  1. Position the insertion point in the paragraph from which you want the border removed.
  2. Select the Borders and Shading command from the Format menu. You will see the Borders and Shading dialog box. (Click here to see a related figure.)
  3. Select the None option from the dialog box.
  4. Click on OK.

If you are using Word 2007, then you should follow these steps:

  1. Position the insertion point in the paragraph from which you want the border removed.
  2. Make sure the Home tab of the ribbon is displayed.
  3. Click the down-arrow to the right of the Borders tool, in the Paragraph group. You'll see a whole series of options you can select.
  4. Choose the No Borders option. Word removes all borders from the paragraph.

Tip #274 applies to Microsoft Word versions: 97 | 2000 | 2002 | 2003 | 2007
