Clearing All Tab Stops in a Paragraph

Summary: Removing all the tab stops in a paragraph (or a selection of paragraphs) is easy. Just select Format | Tabs and use the controls in the Tabs dialog box, as described in this tip. (This tip works with Microsoft Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002, and Word 2003.)

There may be times when you want to clear all tab stops for a certain paragraph. For instance, you may decide that you want to reset all the tabs--it is just easier to start with a clear slate, so to speak. To clear all the tab stops for a paragraph, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure the insertion point is in the paragraph whose tab stops you wish to clear.
  2. Select the Tabs option from the Format menu. Word displays the Tabs dialog box. (Click here to see a related figure.)
  3. Click on Clear All.
  4. Click on OK.

Tip #247 applies to Microsoft Word versions: 97 | 2000 | 2002 | 2003
